The definition of “Nutzwasser” in the context of our project is advanced treated reclaimed water.
The project “Nutzwasser as an alternative water resource” is part of the specific funding programme of the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) on the topic of ‘Water technologies: reuse’. The aim is to develop new, highly flexible and demand-based management strategies for water reuse in urban and agricultural irrigation in a practical manner. The specific objectives of the project are:
- Development of requirements for regulatory implementation for urban and agricultural irrigation practices
- Establishing water quality requirements for different irrigation practices
- Development of digital approaches for the automated recording, archiving and determination of irrigation requirements, taking into account local and regional data in real time
- Implementation of innovative multi-barrier treatment processes for the efficient reduction of microbiological and chemical contaminants
- Development of an automated, demand-based supply of advanced treated wastewater (= ‘Nutzwasser’) including automated quality assurance systems, taking real-time data into account
- Development of innovative concepts for the implementation of reclaimed water systems in existing infrastructure
- Implementation of innovative multi-barrier treatment processes for the efficient reduction of microbiological and chemical contaminants
- Design of adapted operator models and opportunities for technology transfer
- Embedding of the project in an interactive stakeholder process from the outset, and
- Establishment of an innovative public relations platform to communicate concepts for reclaimed water use to an interested public
